Abstract
Over the past sixty years performance appraisal has become such commonplace in organizational life that virtually every company has an appraisal system (Grote, 1996). Research shows there are many approaches to evaluating employee behaviours and performance relative to job tasks and/or organizational culture. As a result, various applications of performance appraisals have left managers in a state of confusion and frustration with the employee evaluation process. In fact, no one seems satisfied with the system they have or content with the results it produces. " Performance appraisal systems are a lot like seat belts, most people believe they are necessary, but they don't like to use them"...
