    Athari ya duksi katlka ufunzaji na ujifunzaji wa kiswahili: mtazamo wa uchanganuzi linganishi tasnifu

    Kazi hii imekusudia kuchanganua athari ya elimu ya Duksi katika ufunzaji na ujifunzaji wa sarufi ya lugha ya Kiswahili kwa mujibu wa mtazamo wa nadharia ya Uchanganuzi Linganishi. Vipengele vya kisarufi yaani abjadi, maendelezo, msamiati, mtindo wa kuandika, mpangilio wa maneno katika sentensi ndivyo vilivyochunguzwa katika utafiti huu. Sampuli mseto ndiyo iliyochaguliwa na kuhusishwa. Watafiti walioshirikishwa walitoka katika wilaya ya Garissa, mjini pamoja na viunga vyake. Tajriba, imani, elimu, mielekeo na maoni ya wanajamii wa viwango mbalimbali yalizingatiwa. Kazi hii pia ilizingatia mbinu za kufunzia Kiswahili madhumuni yakiwa ni kuboresha na kuimarisha ufunzaji na ujifunzaji wa lugha hii katika mkabala wa mazingira ambapo lugha ya Kiarabu inazingatiwa. Yaani hutumiwa kwa kuendeshea shughuli za kidini. Kutokana na utafiti huu ilibainika kuwa elimu ya Duksi ina athari chanya na hasi. 'Mbinu za kufunzia zimedhihirisha njia tofauti tofauti zinazoweza kusaidia kuinua kiwango cha kufunza lugha. Papo hapo kutokana na ukinzano kati ya vipengele vya kisarufi vya (Kiarabu na Kiswahili), imetambulikana kuwa wanafunzi hupata shida zinazohusiana na abjadi, maendelezo, hijai, msamiati na maana ya sentensi. Utafiti huu umependekeza kuwa bado Kuna haja ya kuendeleza elimu jumuifu. ambapo mbinu changamano zinaweza kutumika. Hii ni kwa sababu mafunzo hayo yote ya kidini na ya kimagharibi yana manufaa kwa maisha ya wanafunzi wakiwa shuleni na hata baada ya masomo shuleni.

    Athari ya mbinu rejeshi katika hadithi fupi za Kiswahili

    Utafiti huu ulishughulikia athari ya mbinu rejeshi katika hadithi fupi za Kiswahili. Diwani zilizoshughulikiwa ni za miaka ya elfu mbili nazo ni Mwendawazimu na Hadithi Nyingine (2000) na Kunani Merikani na Hadithi Nyingine (2011). Utafiti huu umeongozwa na nadharia ya eilmumtindo. Nadharia hii ilimfaa mtafiti katika utafiti huu maana diwani hizi ambazo zimeteuliwa zimesheheni matumizi ya mtindo wa mbinu rejeshi. Utafiti huu umegawanywa katika sura nne. Sura ya kwanza ilitupa mwelekeo wa utafiti wetu. Katika sura hii tumejadili swala la utafiti, malengo ya utafiti na sababu za kuchangua mada. Pia katika sura hii tumejadili misingi ya nadharia, upeo wa mipaka na yalioandikwa kuhusu mada. Mwisho mbinu za utafiti, uteuzi wa sampuli, ukusanyaji wa data uchanganuzi wa data na uwasilishaji wa data zimeangaziwa, Sura ya pili nayo imejadili matumizi ya mbinu rejeshi katika diwani ya Mwendawazimu na hadithi Nyingine. Katika sura hii mtafiti amebainisha matumizi ya mbinu rejeshi katika diwani hii na athari ya mtindo huu. Sura ya tatu imezingatia matumizi ya mbinu rejeshi na athari yake katika diwani ya Kunani Merikani na Hadithi Nyingine. Sura ya nne ambayo ni hitimisho imekuwa muhtasari, matatizo na mapendekezo ya mtafiti. Utafiti huu unanuia kuwafaidi wahakiki wengine, wasomi na waandishi wa kazi za fasihi. Pia utafiti huu utawasaidia wahadhiri na wanafunzi wa vyuo vikuu katika kuhakiki kazi zao.

    Magical Transformations and the Subjugation of Nature in Said Ahmed Mohamed’s Ba bu Alipofufuka

    This paper examines magical transformations and the subjugation of nature in Said Ahmed Mohamed’s novel, Babu Alipofufuka. It presupposes that through magical transformations, the co-relation between magic and artistic expression is evident. When magical transformations are utilized in literary works, they foreground meaning. It is in this context that the paper seeks to analyze magical transformations in the abovementioned novel. The paper argues that the author borrows from his social perspective of magic to attempt to give an interpretation of phenomena. Specifically, it is apparent that magical transformations are utilized as a way of acknowledging other ways of seeing the world other than science in an African context. Magical transformations cannot be analyzed by examining one element, but an entire discourse of the magical phenomenon. It is in this context that the paper utilizes Critical Discourse Analysis Theory (CDA) in interpretation of meaning

    Fifty Years of Kiswahili in Kenya is a collection of articles that were presented at an international Kiswahili conference organized by the National Kiswahili Association (CHAKITA) Kenya in 2013, which was held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).     Operationalizing Kiswahili as a Second Official Language: Examples from Canadian and South Africans Language Policy Frameworks

    In the last decade, Kenyans became extremely aware of the issue of language and language usage in the country. This awareness led to the recognition of Kiswahili as one of the official languages of Kenya. The Kenyan 2010 Constitution recognizes that the national language of the Republic of Kenya is Kiswahili while the official languages are Kiswahili and English (Chapter 2, Section 7 (2). Previously, English was used as the official language and language of instruction in education sector while Kiswahili was the national language. This paper is anchored around the success of the Canadian and South African models of promoting two or more official languages. The paper seeks to borrow from the language policies of the two nations and make recommendations on how the new language policy can be operationalized in tandem with the spirit of the new constitution promulgated in 2010. The paper seeks to isolate the strengths of bilingual language policy as exemplified by both Canadian and South African language policy models that can effectively contribute to the promotion of Kiswahili as an official language in Kenya.
