Abstract
Education and training has been considered the backbone of Human resource development. Consequently the development of a nation is measured by the literacy level of a nation which involves individuals, team, and organizational performance. Investing in Education and Training ensures a competent, knowledgeable and skilled manpower required by the current and future needs of a nation. The crucial role played by basic education (primary education) in Human Resource Development has led to its being declared a Human Right to which every child is entitled.
Consequently the government has initiated a number of strategies to see the success of this basic requirement, School Feeding Programme being one of them. In the literature review, a summary of studies has been highlighted showing the importance of primary education especially in the developing world. The School Feeding Programme is instrumental in supporting all the school age going children access to basic education.
The study involved collecting primary data by providing a questionnaire to the target sample, while the secondary data was collected from Education offices in Kajiado District. The project took nine weeks at a cost of Kshs 47,000; descriptive statistics was used for the data analysis.
The objective of the research was to survey the management and sustainability of the School Feeding Programme. It was evident from the finding that stringent management measures of School Feeding Programme was inevitable due to various challenges and shortfalls encountered during its implementation. Since the programme will not be donor funded forever, several strategies were identified and recommendation made on the event that the donor withdrew.
