Abstract
Sports is a valuable activity for mankind in the modern society. It is a popular activity for the active participants and the passive enthusiasts. However, in spite of the high regard given to sport, there has been persistent inequality in participation especially across gender. Women have continued to be under-represented than men not only in competitive and recreational sport but also in sports leadership and sports related academic fields. Although women have made strides towards establishing themselves in sport, their proportion is still outnumbered by the one of men. It is in the light of this phenomenon that the present study has been conducted to argue the case of women's under-representation with reference to various areas of sports participation and competitions. However, it is noted that the number of women participants in some areas of sports has increased over the years.
