The degree to which organizational productivity can be attributed to employee performance is a perennial subject for debate. Many organizations consider employee performance the major determinant of organizational success and consequently reflect this consideration in their value systems and organizational structure. While performance appraisal systems are found in all kinds of organizations, it is in organizations that recognize the relationship between employee performance and organizational performance that such systems are given first priority in both construction and ongoing support. The researcher therefore wished to determine the impact of performance appraisal on staff development. The target population is staff of the two multinational companies in Kericho. Two instruments (questionnaires) were used to collect data from the appraisers and appraisees and then analyzed using descriptive and relational statistics, which include tables of frequencies and distribution, graphs, pie-charts, correlation and regression. Statistical package for social science programme was also used. The outcome of this research is expected to benefit the private sector employees of the various companies, the academia and finally the government policy makers in issues affecting policy development in her quest to industrialize by the year 2015.en_US
