dc.description.abstractThis research aimed at analysing the Use of Metaphor in Kivuli Kinaishi na Kitumbua Kimeingia Mchanga. A metaphor is a term or phrase applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance. This research has critically analysed the use of metaphor in the choosen texts which are Kivuli Kinaishi (1990) and Kitumbua Kimeingia Mchanga (2000). These texts are written by Said .A. Mohamed. This research aimed at showing the types of metaphors used in the texts, their importance in developing themes and passing of information. In the use of metaphor the writer communicates indirectly.This research was guided by the stylistics theory.The founder of this theory is Buffon (1930) who said that style is the way one uses language to pass information. Style is one's use oflanguage. According to Buffon style can be used to defme a writer, by looking at someone's work we can link him or her to a certain style. Therefore this research has shown how this writer has used metaphor to potray information through the texts. This research was done in the library by reading and analysing the choosen texts and other relevant materials and resources related to the research problem. The data collected was arranged basing on the research objectives and analysed according to the research questions, objectives and the tenets of the stylistics theory by showing the different types of metaphors, explaining how the metaphors have been important in developing the themes in the text and the information potraited by the metaphors.The results were presented in a descriptive form. This research will be of importance to students, scholars and anyone who appreciates literary works.en_US
