dc.description.abstractThe main focus of the project Tide is: An investigation into performance management appraisal system at the Mombasa City Council. Performance appraisal is an integral part of the control process the management function. It entails the process of comparing the actual performance with the planed performance and then correcting or reinforcing the actual performance. Municipal Council of Mombasa being a service provider to the larger residents of the Mombasa City has a large work force which needs an appropriate appraisal tool to improve individual performance. The objectives of the research were as follows: - 1. To establish the effectiveness of the current appraisal system. 2. To identify the underlying causes of any weakness in the current procedure. 3. To make workable recommendations on how performance appraisal can be made more effective. It is in this respect that the researcher endeavored to investigate the effectiveness of performance appraisal system in place, identify weaknesses and recommend actions to be put in place in order to enhance individual motivation towards improving effectiveness of the human resource department.en_US
