dc.description.abstractLinguists posit that children learn a second language if exposed to interesting activities like songs. Songs can be of great value in learning as they capture the children’s attention and guide them through the learning environment. In addition, songs also enhance students’ receptivity and help students understand the target language. The research on which this paper is based set explored the application of songs in the teaching of Swahili tense and negation. The data were qualitatively analyzed and the emergent findings support the claim that the use of songs reinforces acquisition of the grammatical structures. In addition, the paper discusses the findings and proposes recommendations for pedagogyen_US
