dc.description.abstract | The researcher noted that academic performance of the secondary schools in Kajiado county greatly differed with some schools in the lowest category (county schools) performing well more than those at National or Extra County level. As a result, the study aimed at establishing leadership principles and their impact on academic performance in secondary schools in Kajiado County. The three objectives of the research were developed to guide the research study as follows: to establish the effect of diversity on academic achievement, to determine the impact of change on academic performance, and to investigate the impact of teamwork on academic performance. The research was based on two theories: contingency theory and servant-leader theory. A descriptive design was used in the research study. It targeted a population of30 administrators, 50 H.O. D’s & D.O. S’s, 100 teachers and 150 students. The sample population was achieved through use of simple random sampling technique. Data was collected from the respondents through the use of a questionnaire. Analysis of the data was then done using qualitative content analysis for qualitative data whereas quantitative data was presented using SPSS. Inferential data analysis was used to make general conclusions for a large population whereas Multiple regression model was used for regression analysis. In conclusion, the researcher explored how the independent variables i.e., Promotion of diversity, focus on change and team work influenced academic performance of secondary schools in Kajiado County. From the findings, all the independent variables greatly had an effect on academic performance of secondary schools in Kajiado County. All the variables had positive correlations with influence of team work having the highest correlation of 0.780. The study recommends that school administrations should retain the above principles of leadership but moreso should dig deeper and find out the reason for the minimal performances in most of the schools in the county. School leaders should provide regular updates on the progress of the schools as well as do bench-marking with schools that perform well academically so as to learn from them. | en_US |
