Abstract
The use of electronic procurement strategies to increase an organization's productivity has become increasingly mainstream in recent years. Due to the high cost of purchases, organizational performance expectations in the public sector have not been fulfilled, forcing the procurement unit to look for more funding that may not be available and could also take a while to be approved by The National Treasury. The main purpose of this study was to determine the influence of electronic procurement strategies and performance at East Africa Portland Cement, Kenya. Specific objectives of the study were to examine the influence of electronic payments, electronic tendering, electronic ordering and electronic sourcing on performance of East Africa Portland Cement, Kenya. The study was anchored on resource-based view theory, the institutional theory and disruptive innovation theory. The study employed descriptive research design with a target population of 111 employees and sample population of 58 respondents was selected using simple random sampling method. Semi-structured questionnaires were employed to collect primary data. The descriptive statistics analysed quantitative data. Descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation were carried out. Further inferential statistics specifically multiple regression analysis was conducted. Data was presented using tables. Ethical considerations such as confidentiality, anonymity and privacy were observed. The study found that electronic payments, electronic tendering, electroninc ordering and electronic sourcing had a positive significant influence on the performance of East Africa Portland Cement, Kenya. The study concludes that by adopting electronic payment as part of their electronic procurement strategy, organizations can streamline their payment processes, reducing the time and effort required to complete transactions. Electronic tendering improves communication and collaboration between buyers and suppliers. Electronic ordering enables organizations to automate their procurement processes, eliminating the need for manual paperwork and reducing the risk of errors. Electronic sourcing enables organizations to collaborate more effectively with suppliers, communicate requirements clearly, and track supplier performance. The study recommends that the organization should implement electronic invoicing to help to speed up the payment process, reduce errors, and improve accuracy. The organization should streamline the electronic tendering process by implementing automated systems that allow for easy submission and evaluation of tenders. The organization can invest in an integrated electronic procurement system that allows for seamless communication and collaboration between different departments involved in the procurement process. The organization should utilize advanced technology and tools to streamline the sourcing process, improve supplier relationships, and increase efficiency.
