dc.description.abstract | In an organization's operations and decision-making, strategic leadership continues to be a crucial factor. Successful strategic leadership guarantees the continued success of a company's operational framework, both now and in the future. A lack of strategic leadership in a company's management may result in a lack of vision and a lack of competitive advantage. This study sought to assess how strategic leadership affects the performance of Flower Farms in Nakuru County, Kenya. The study investigated the effect of organizational culture, building core competence, leadership networking and organizational purpose on performance of flower farms in Nakuru County, Kenya. The study was anchored on four theories, Strategic Leadership Theory, Resource Based View of the firm, Balanced Score Card model and Situational Leadership Theory. The research adopted descriptive research design that was used to gather primary data from a sample of respondents in the category of Chief Executive Officers of 43 flower farms in Nakuru County. The primary data was collected using structured questionnaires through a drop and pick method. The study carried out a pilot study to establish the reliability of the data collection instrument. The pilot was conducted on ten (10) flower farms in Nairobi and its environs who were given a preliminary questionnaire to fill out. The sample from the pilot study assisted the researcher in identifying deficiencies, such as questionnaire clarity, in the research instrument. Research data was statistically processed to answer the research question using basic statistics, measures of central tendency and inferential statistics of Linear Regression Analysis. The study expected to obtain data for answering the research questions of the study and contribute towards understanding of how strategic leadership contributes to the viability of flower firms and to the greater population of organizations in the agriculture sector in Kenya. The study found that organizational culture, building core competence, leadership networking and organizational purpose had a positive and significant effect on performance of flower farms in Nakuru County, Kenya. The study recommends that the department of Horticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture should streamline flower management to comply with the principles of strategic leadership especially the four constructs of strategic leadership; organizational culture, building core competence, leadership networking and organizational purpose which had a positive significant effect on performance of flower farms in Nakuru County, Kenya. | en_US |
