Abstract
These research is about the concept of life and death in selected Kiswahili novels
Nagona and Mzingile. The research has been guided by three basic questions. First,
we have researched on how Kezilahabi has used the concept of life and death as a
mystery. Two, the research has looked at the outcome of life and death in the two
novels and astly, we have researched on different ways of viewing life and death. The
tenets of archetypical and magical realism theories were used so as to meet the
objectives of the research. Data analysis was done in the library through intensive
reading of books and different materials. These research has been divided into five
chapters. The first chapter gives the summary of the whole research. The second
chapter gives the history and the philosophies of E. Kezilahabi. The third chapter has
looked at different themes of life and death in in Nagona through different images.
the fourth-chapter gives the themes of life and death in Mzingile. The fifth chapter
concludes these research by giving the summary, contribution, outcome and
problems of the research. The outcome of the research is that life is not a straight line
but is cyclic
