dc.description.abstractABSTRACT Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited plays a critical role in Kenya’s economy; indeed the industry contributes 26% of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. Kenya tea industry in Embu County has witnessed challenges as evidenced by declining second payments (bonus) and employee turnover over the last five years. The general objective of the study was to investigate the influence of employee empowerment on the performance of KTDA Ltd in Embu County. The specific objective of the study was to establish the influence of employee training, delegation, work environment and employee freedom on the performance of KTDA Ltd in Embu County. The study focused on the three factories in Embu County and the target population was 42 section heads. A census study was conducted. The study used descriptive research design. Primary data was collected by use of semi structured questionnaires. In addition, secondary data was collected from documented sources. Qualitative data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics the analysed data was presented by use of frequency distribution tables. The study established that employee training, delegation; work environment and employee freedom had a positive significant influence on the performance of KTDA Ltd in Embu County. This study recommended that the management of KTDA Limited in Embu County should strengthen and enforce training policy in regards to skills acquisition, creativity and employee mobility. Delegation should be put in place to enhance employee experience, autonomy and discretion. The management should strengthen and enforce policies for work environment in regard to employee health and safety and provide functional working tools to ensure employees are motivated. Finally, KTDA management should formulate and enforce work at home policy to lower costs in regard to office space and increase employees flexibility and efficiency.en_US
