Abstract
This thesis is about Black Aesthetics and how it unfolds in the plays Mukwava wa
Uhehe and Nitaolewa Nikipenda, written by Mugyabuso Mulokozi and Ngugi wa
Thiong'o respectively. The research that was carried out was intended to show
how black aesthetics is seen via themes, stylistic devices and characterization.
This research is guided by Black Aesthetics theory. Some pillars of this theory
include the use of African languages in works of literature, writing about African
heroes, African themes and the African environment. .The researcher's
methodology includes reading the plays selected for research, explaining the main
points which envisage black aesthetics and analysing them. The outcome of the
research reveals that black aesthetics can be seen clearly in Mukwava wa Uhehe
andNitaolewa Nikipenda through themes, stylistic devices and characterization.
