dc.description.abstractOrganizations, especially business organizations conduct job evaluation to establish and qualify differences in employee contribution across jobs. These differences provide a foundation for employee compensation decisions. The research revealed that compensation, organization structure, nature of tasks and the qualification of the employees playa greater role in affecting job evaluation in CARE Kenya. From the findings the assessment of each factor affecting job evaluation is based on the job being performed competently. Majority of the respondent also strongly agreed that evaluation is conducted in relation to the overall structure and accountability involved, demands made on the job, as well as skills and experience required for competent performance. Knowledge and experience, availability of human and financial resources, the diversity of functions performed by the position and accountability are other factors which were found to have a great influence on the process of job evaluation at CARE Kenya. As the management styles involve building teams and networks of relationships and motivating others, there should be consultation among the top management about the validity and viability of the evaluation scheme, so that any amendment should be done before full implementation of the scheme. Proper staff recruitment training and development should be enhanced in NGOs to enhance self-confidence of the employees thus improving the level of performance. This will create efficient employee understanding and harmony during the evaluation process. However, this work is not by itself conclusive and further research is recommended. First, there is a need to carry out a research among other International NGO's in the country to give more representative results and to reduce any potential bias in the results. A further research on comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of job evaluation system in NGO and Government related corporations in Kenya should be conducted.en_US
