Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the problems and challenges encountered in teaching Christian Religious Education in the primary schools of Thika Municipality. Specifically the study was designed to: 1. Find out to what extent the teachers were academically and professionally prepared for the effective teaching of Christian Religious Education. 2. Determine the adequacy and appropriateness of aspects such as the following in teaching Christian Religious Education; The instructional difficulties, work-load, and allocation and distribution of the time set aside for Christian Religious Education in the Primary Schools Curriculum. 3. Establish the teachers general attitudes towards Christian Religious Education and their opinions about the appropriateness of teaching the subject. 4. Identify and suggest solutions to some of the instructional difficulties encountered by the teachers.
