Abstract
Performance concerns such as employee satisfaction, competitive advantage, employee turnover and succession planning have been deteriorating in Kenya Airways due to leadership wrangles and corruption. This has led to losses in the organization, necessitating the undertaking of this study. The study therefore aimed at examining the effect of transformational.leadership on performance in.Kenya using Kenya Airways as the case study. Objectives of the study included; Establishing how intellectual stimulation influences performance of Kenya Airways, determine how individualized consideration influences performance of Kenya Airways, examine how inspirational motivation influences performance of Kenya Airways and investigate how idealized influence influences performance of Kenya Airways. The study was founded on contingency theory of leadership, transactional theory of leadership, transformational theory of leadership and goal setting theory. The study adopted descriptive type of research design while using structured questionnaires to collect primary data from Kenya Airways . Analysis of data was carried out using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. The study targeted Kenya Airways Limited which formed the unit of analysis of the study. Focus was on the employees of Kenya Airways starting from senior level of management to the junior employees and they therefore formed the unit of observation of the study. Construct.validity gave a description on whether support was given by the case study in regard to the interpretation of the.variables that were used, Cronbach’s Alpha technique.was used to estimate the reliability of data. The study found out that intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation and idealized influence have a postive and statistically signficant effect on performance of Kenya Airways in Kenya. The findings of this study are signicant in that they will benefit the.Government of Kenya since its outcome will suggest the extent to which various.components of transformational leadership are believed to influence performance in privatized companies in Kenya.
