Abstract
Organizational attainment is a predominant subject for scholars in the field of strategic management because of the intense drift of determinants and circumstances in the organizational ambience. Industry observers have noted that the consummation of companies in the mass media sector has been rising and falling over time due to the volatility of the environmental factors characteristic of the said industry. It is visualized that firms that endeavour to thrive in environments that are invariably changing must embrace relevant calculated judgments that would fundamentally accelerate their change management strategies. This inquiry, therefore, sought to look into the sway of change management strategies on the organizational performance of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation in Nairobi City County. The specific objectives of the study sought to determine the influence of innovation strategy, market expansion strategy, training and development strategy, and investment strategy on the organizational performance of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. The four theories encapsulating the study objectives were the Organizational Systems Theory, the Contingency theory, Lewin’s Change Management Theory and Balanced scorecard theory. The researcher utilized the descriptive research design. The target population comprised the members of staff at the headquarters of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation in Nairobi City County, Kenya. The target respondents were selected using stratified random sampling of 150 employees from the departments of Radio, Television, ICT, Technical Services, Corporate Planning, Research and Development and Administration. The study used primary data which were gathered using a semi-structured questionnaire. The data collection tool was administered using an online data collection approach due to COVID 19 protocols. Descriptive statistics were utilized to administer summary measures of the data collected and they included frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviations and coefficient of variation. On the other hand, analysis of inferential statistics adopted a multiple regression model. The analysis helped in making conclusions and generalizations. The study used face, content and construct validity while the reliability of the research instrument was verified using the Cronbach’s Alpha index. The results of quantitative data analysis were exhibited through tables and figures. In addition, qualitative data was scrutinized using content analysis and the output was put forward in prose form. The research findings revealed that individually innovation strategy (β=0.907), market expansion strategy (β=0.773), training and development strategy (β=0.426), and investment strategy (β=0.531) were statistically significant in determining organizational performance and that jointly they accounted for 46.6% of the variation in the organizational performance as depicted by the coefficient of multiple determination (R2 =0.466). Seeing that the said change management strategies had a positive effect on organizational performance, the management of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation could utilize the findings in formulating policies that foment the activities and practices associated with the strategies not only to manage change effectively but also to post excellent performance on different fronts.
