It is through such studies that gaps are identified and filled in the libraries. This study was carried out in Kenyatta University Postmodern library. The purpose of this study was to find out what the information needs of the graduate users are and how these needs are met at the Postmodern Library. Descriptive survey research was used. Data was collected using questionnaires for the graduate and analyzed using SPSS version 20 for window. The study established that graduate library users were generally satisfied with the postmodern Library resources and services. Although library books were found to be outdated in some areas majority of the respondents indicated that they were satisfied with both the print and electronic information materials. However there were areas which were found to be quite wanting in one way or the other and which caused some level of dissatisfaction. These included insufficient electronic databases, inadequate information seeking behavior, outdated books, insufficient time, insufficient computer terminal, slow connectivity etc. The study recommended various practical steps to satisfy their clients' needs. These were Proper user training programmes, regular evaluation of library services to the graduate users and better library practices.Item The Digitization of Record Centres and the Effect of Records Use and Management: A Case of the Post-Modern Library at Kenyatta University Main Campus.(Kenyatta University, 2022) Kairu, Harrison Mburu; George Gitau NjorogeOver the years, digitization of libraries has advanced and this is a whole new concept to both the library users and the library staff. This study is based on the postmodern library in Kenyatta university. It is through this research study that we will get to know the views of the postmodern library users and staff on the digitization of the library resources. This study's objective was to describe the consequences of digitalization on the use, management, and utilization of electronic records, to Assess to what extent the post-modem library has been digitized, to identify the various e- records kept and maintained at the post-modem library and to determine the difficulties the postmodern library personnel encountered in managing the digitized records. Self-completion questionnaires made it easier to obtain data from the sample population for the qualitative research design, which was then. utilized to analyze the data. The findings revealed that the PML is greatly digitized as there is a website through which both the students and staff can access the digitized resources from. The study also showed that the major issues facing library staff when managing electronic resources are technical dependency and obsolescence. The study also demonstrated that due to the PML's policy of remote access, the digitization of records has boosted the use and consumption of the digital resources. The study's conclusions led to the following recommendations: library management should spend money on information infrastructure. This includes a proper internet connectivity to access the digitized information as well as the databases. The study also recommended the mobilization of users by developing well defined marketing policies for the digitized resources to increase the use and utilization. The study also recommended user training to equip the PML users with the necessary searching skills when accessing the digitized resources at the PML.Item Awareness and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Academic Libraries: a Case of Kenyatta University Post Modern Library(Kenyatta University, 2023) Mwova, Hope Waeni; Gitau NjorogeThe dominant explanation from several studies have reported that despite the tools and facilities for information and communication technology being available, students do not fully utilize them, despite the numerous potential provided by the development of ICT, it has been noted that its application in academic libraries appears insufficient. This is likely because of a number of challenges. The postmodern library at Kenyatta University served as the study location. This study's objective was to ascertain the level of awareness and utilization of ICT in Kenyatta university postmodern library. The research design was descriptive and data was collected using questionnaires, observation and interviews. This research is guided by Diffusion of Innovation (DOl) theory, technology acceptance model and the theory of planned behavior. The study established that despite the high level of awareness among student there's only a limited adoption of the systems. Despite the fact that they exists, there are some barriers that may prevent the mentioned library system from being utilized some of this include Insufficient search skills, slow internet connection, some respondents would rather opt for the search engines on their mobile devices rather than walk to the library and utilize the ICT resources others weren't aware of other ICT resources available, a few stated they are aware, have the required knowledge to utilize but have never really felt the need to use them. The study recommended that the promotion of library ICT services and resources needs to be taken seriously. Social media should be used by the library as new methods of information dissemination and the internet speed needs to be improved. The library has measures put up to ensure awareness and use ofICT including appropriate user training programs, only that some of them are unknown by the students .
