Abstract
Electrical characterizatrion of polystyrene doped with FeCl3 has been studied by measuring the D.C. conductivity (), Thermoelectric power (S) and space charge limited (SCL) current in the temperature the dopant levels of 0.0%, 0.28%, 0.38%, 1.1%, 1.23%, 1.4%, 2.5% and 3.3% of FeCl3 mass concentration. The D.C dark conductivity has been found to increase exponentially with temperature. It also increase with the dopant upto 2.5% FeCl3 mass concentration, beyond which it appears to be marginal. There are mixed conductance; extrinsic and intrinsic at low and high temperatures respectively. Activation energy in the intrinsic region decreases with the dopant and is lying int he ranged from 2.25 to 0.43eV while in the extrinsic region, it ranged from 0.85 to 0.42eV. Thermoelectric Power study shows that the pure and doped Polystyrene was n-type. The activation energy Es for carrier generation was found to decrease with the dopant level and ranged from 1.33 to 0.34eV.
