| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study is to find out the school related factors affecting Geography performance among form three and four students in public secondary schools in Vihiga Sub County. It has been noted clearly that geography subject has been declining over the years which in turn has led to low enrollment of students in geography classes. The researcher has been prompted to carry out a research which will be guided with three objectives which are; teacher competence, the availability and utilization of teaching and learning resources and the students’ attitude towards geography subject. Major areas to be investigated will include; utilization of available teaching and learning resources by students and teachers, teachers’ qualifications, teachers’ teaching experience, preparation of schemes of work, lesson plan and notes, preparation of teachers through in-service training, attitude of students towards geography subject and contribution of principals towards enhancing students’ performance in Geography. The study will be conducted in a sample of 10 schools out of the 25 schools in the sub county. A sample of 10 principals, 10 HOD’s, 40 teachers and 200 students will be selected for the study. Descriptive research survey design will be employed for the study. The researcher will collect the data personally from the principals using interview schedule while questionnaires will be used to collect data from the, HOD’s, teachers and students. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical package of social science (SPSS) and presented using descriptive statistics including frequency counts, percentages and tabulations. Conclusions will later be drawn from the findings. | en_US |
