Teaching a second language successfully depends on several factors. The training of the language teacher, production and use of resources and age of the pupils. The rate, quality and quantity of teaching and learning are dependent on the fore-mentioned factors. This project was basically aimed at finding out whether those factors existed in Kenyan lower primary school classes. The population of the study was lower primary teachers of English language and headteachers from the 40 primary schools in both Langata and Dagoretti divisions of the City of Nairobi. 80 teachers and 20 headteachers were randomly selected to form the research sample. The Director of the Nairobi teachers Advisory Centre also was part of the sample. The research tools were questionnaires, observation and interview. Questionnaires were administered to the teachers who were asked to provide information about their qualifications, training and classroom practice concerning production and use of resources for English language teaching. Observing some of the selected teachers (24 in all) filled the gap between what was provided in the questionnaires and the actual classroom teaching. Records related to resources and actual use of resources were checked. The physical state of the classrooms and the working atmosphere were also noted. Lack of training in production and use of resources for English language teaching as well as rare use of resources in the language classes was observed in the findings. Need for in-service training of teachers, shortage of resources and lack of storage space were also some of the basic findings in the current study.en_US
