dc.description.abstractThis study seeks to examine the relationship between performance contracting strategy, public sector reforms and performance of public institutions in the transport sector in Kenya. This study uses the institutional theory. The main objective of the study was to examine the effects of performance contracting strategy, public sector reforms and the performance of institutions in the transport sector in Kenya. The population of interest in this study was all public institutions in the transport sector in Kenya. The study surveyed public sector institutions in the transport sector and collected data through personal interviews. The study used SEM analysis to show the correlation between performance contracting strategy and public sector reforms and how they impact on institutions performance. The study established that performance contracting is a vehicle to achieve reform in the new public management and its use as a strategy in the transport sector in Kenya, leading to efficiency gains, improved service delivery and competitiveness.en_US
