Abstract
The study seeks to find out effects of quality assurance and standards practices on pupils' performance in the K.C.P.E examinations in Murang'a East Sub-county. The study seeks to establish the current levels of quality assurance and standards programmes, the factors affecting quality assurance and standards programmes, the mechanisms put in place to improve on the quality assurance and standards programmes and the practises used for quality assurance programmes. The study will employ a descriptive design and the target population will consist of the head teachers and teachers in the public primary schools in the Murang'a East Sub-county. The random stratified sampling method will be used for sampling purposes. The education zones in the sub-county will act as the strata in the sampling purposes. The data will be collected by use of questionnaires which will be administered to the teachers and head teachers. An interview schedule will be served on District Quality Assurance and Standards Officer. The data will be analysed by use of quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative methods will entail descriptive and inferential statistics while the qualitative methods will entail aligning the collected information to the already documented data about the effects of quality assurance and standards programmes on the pupils' performance in the K.C.P.E examinations.
