dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of the secondary school teachers about the teacher’s role in the development of the curriculum in Kenya. Specifically, the study aimed at investigating the following objectives: 1. To find out the views of the secondary school teachers on the way the curriculum is developed in Kenya. 2. To determine the extent to which secondary school teachers are involved in curriculum development in Kenya. 3 To identify the possibilities of increasing the degree of participation of the secondary school teachers in the development of the school curriculum. 3. To find out the problems secondary school teachers encounter when implementing the developed curriculum. 4. To find out the views of the secondary teachers on the roles they should play in the development of the secondary school curriculum. The main findings of the study included the following; a) Teachers are dissatisfied with the present way of curriculum development, which neglects them. b) The majority of the teachers in Kisii District have never participated in the development of the curriculum. c) Most teachers are willing to participate in all stages of curriculum development. d) Teachers stated that they encounter some problems when implementing the developed curriculum. e) There are several roles that teachers should play in the development of the curriculum. Finally, on the basis of the findings, several recommendations and suggestions for further research were made.en_US
