Abstract
The use of drugs and supplements to enhance performance has become prevalent in the athletic world. Many sports administrators, team physicians and coaches are not famillar . .--- with the benefits and risks of these substances. Therefore they ate unable to educate young athletes on this topic. 111 spite of several reports on the health risks of annbolic '11" rsteroid use marly people seem to have used them. Human growth ..hormone (tfGlt) lias been used by a small percentage. Amphetamines and similar compounds may be the most widely abused drugs particularly in the game of baseball, Erythropoitein, a highly effective aerobic enhancer has lead to many deaths in cyclists and other endurance athletes. Supplements such as creatine and .. ephedrine remain unregulated by the F.ood and Drug Administration.
