Abstract
The essential oil of fresh leaves of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. (Myrtaceae) obtained from Muguga Arboretum, Kiambu District, Kenya, was extracted by steam distillation for varying times and analysed using GC and GC-MS. The optimum time was found to be 5 hours with the yield of the oil being 2.48% while the content of 1,8-cineole was found to be 55.87%. Other constituents in this medical oil include eudesmol, (±)-linalool, B-pinene,trans-citral, carvone and a-terpineol
