Abstract
Diarrhoea is a serious infection that kills at least 2 million children globally. Children under the age of 5 years are particularly predisposed to diarrhoea especially if the surrounding environment is contaminated or polluted with human sewerage. Due to frequent episodes of diarrhoea, children may unjustifiably be subjected to antibiotics and this could in turn lead to emergence of multi drug resistant strains. In this study, we isolated and determined antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of 384 E. coli isolates from rural and urban children with chronic and acute diarrhoea.
