Induction Workshop for EAC Scholarship Programme Cohort 2 students

Abstract
The Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) andthe German Development Bank-KFW EAC is currently implementing a Scholarship Programme following an initiative by by the East African Community (EAC) and the Federal Republic of Germany. The project is being co-managed by Adroit Consult International, an independent firm. The goal of this initiative is to contribute towards training leaders that will foster the EAC regional integration. It aims at creating future change agents, who identify themselves with the integration agenda of the EAC and are willing to share economic and developmentoriented expert knowledge. The project begun in 2018 when the EAC and IUCEA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with KfW. The overall approach is to support highly qualified students who are not in a position to finance the master’s programme on their own, to study in countries other than their own. In order to achieve these impacts, the project offers a comprehensive package including scholarships for master’s programmes, internships, mentoring, networking events and further leadership training activities. The scholarship supports master’s students in Mathematics, Engineering, Informatics, Science, Technology and Business Science programmes. The scholarship programme includes a minimum 30 percent female students in order to support women’s participation and enhance gender equality. To further enhance regional integration, under the co-curriculum aspect of the project in cohort 2 of the scholarship programme, an induction workshop for the cohort 2 EAC Scholarship beneficiaries was held, under the theme “Higher Education, Students Mobility and Regional Integration in East African Community” between 19th -23rd April 2022 in Tiffany Diamond Hotel located in Dar Es Saalam, Tanzania. Workshop/ Conference Objectives:Describe conference objectives The workshop had three specific objectives: 1. To provide a platform for the scholars to exchange knowledge and views about the importance of students’ mobility in higher education and regional integration agenda 2. To equip the scholars with knowledge and analytical skills and competences on the economic, political, social and general development trends in EAC integration. 3. To explore and identify opportunities for collaboration among the scholars, programmes, institutions, in areas of governance, culture, language and economy.
