Abstract
i The study will investigate cooperative learning as one of the teaching strategies with the view of establishing the extent to which teachers use it in primary schools in Kenya. A survey study will therefore be conducted in Bomet central division, Bomet County. The main objective of the study is to establish if teachers involve the cooperative learning and especially TAI for Mathematics and to establish how teachers strategize their group learning. The study will involve standard four and seven of public primary schools. Bomet Central Division has a total of approximately 28,000 pupils in standard four and seven. Mathematics teachers in these classes are approximately 350 in total. Standard four forms the start of upper primary and standard seven is the senior most class. This study will use descriptive survey design. A sample from the schools from Bomet central division will be used. The researcher proposes to use 10 schools with a total of 1600 pupils and 20 teachers. The head teachers who are also part of the study will be approximately 10. Data will be collected using questionnaires and observation schedules. Both quantitative and qualitative data will be generated. Data collected will then be coded and subjected to statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) for analysis. The findings will then be discussed and logical conclusions drawn and reported. The study will establish this mode of instruction.
