Abstract
This study aims at gaining an in-depth understanding of the role of principals in creating child friendly environment in the general secondary school administration as perceived by teachers, parents and students in Molo Division, Nakuru County. The study is based on the following objectives: to determine the successful leadership practices by the principals that can create a child friendly environment in Secondary schools in Molo Division; assess the role that head teachers play in creating a child friendly environment as perceived by parents, teachers' and students; investigate the challenges faced by principals .in creating a child friendly environment to facilitate smooth learning and to establish appropriate strategies applied by principals to mitigate the challenges to improve the performance of students in secondary schools. This study adopted descriptive survey design, where the target population involved secondary principals and teachers in Molo Division-Nakuru County. A sample of all the 18 principals and 28 teachers were taken from secondary schools within Molo Division.For both quantitative and qualitative data, purposive sampling was applied to identify key informants.This research used purposive sampling on principals regarding what roles they play in creating a child friendly environment in schools. To obtain the required data, the study used questionnaires. Data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively in order to arrive at conclusions. The study findings are expected to be beneficial to parents, teachers and all stakeholders working towards understanding the role of principals in creating a child friendly environment in secondary schools.
