Item Hygiene Awareness: Improving School Attendance and Participation in Kenya(Kenyatta University, 2015-05) Njau, S. T.Prevention of illness amongst school-going children is crucial in enabling access and participation in learning. Educational achievements can be linked to healthy behaviour, a healthy body and a healthy living environment. This paper argues that there is need to ensure that schools maintain good hygiene in order for the learners to be able to be in school and continue to learn. Quality education entails that children have a holistic learning which includes the emotional, physical and psychomotor as well as the academic dimensions. Learners should be taught to be responsible for their own well-being both in school and while out of school. The school administration, parents and the community should therefore strive to maintain good hygiene. This paper discusses the measures that schools should put in place to enhance maintenance of high hygiene standards so as to ensure that students are in good health.
