(Kenyatta University, 2025-03) Wambua, Rukia Nasra
With the unpredictable business environment and intense business competition, organizations are required to reach certain standards by improving their productivity to align with such great demands and an abundance of resources such as infrastructures or physical facilities are made meaningless without the support of qualified human resources that directly disrupt the continuity of the business operations. A key challenge of employee productivity is the limited impact of certain training methods which may not immediately boost performance. Additionally, factors like inadequate resources, lack of motivation, and poor alignment of training programs with specific job roles can hinder overall productivity improvements. The main objective of the study was to assess the effect of training techniques on employee productivity at East African Portland Cement Company. The specific objectives were to establish the effect of job training, mentoring, classroom and e-learning training techniques on employee productivity at East Africa Portland Cement PLC at Athi River Kenya. Resource based view theory, human capital theory and the Herzberg Two-Factor Theory are the theories anchored the study. The target population of study comprised employees at East Africa Portland Cement PLC at Athi River Kenya and targeted 457 employees who had taken part in a form of training and development. Purposive and random sampling were used in selection of the 137 respondents who formed the sample size. Primary data was collected using questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software and presented in form charts, graphs and tables. Descriptive statistics results showed that the respondents agreed that job rotation, mentoring, e training and classroom training techniques had an effect on employee productivity in EAPCC. The correlation results showed a positive and significant effect of job rotation training technique (P = 0.434, Sig. = 0.031), e-training technique (P = 0.332, Sig. = 0.005) and classroom training technique (P = 0.536, Sig. = 0.019) on employee productivity and a positive and insignificant effect (P = 0.425, Sig. = 0.211) of mentoring training technique on employee productivity in EAPCC. The regression results showed a positive and significant effect of job rotation training technique (β = 0.256, Sig. = 0.026), e-training technique (β = 0.234, Sig. = 0.019), classroom training technique (β = 0.008, Sig. = 0.030) on employee productivity and a positive and insignificant effect (β = 0.184, Sig. = 0.198) of mentoring training technique on employee productivity in EAPCC. The study concludes that the training techniques have significantly affected employee productivity in EAPCC. The study recommends that for EAPCC to be efficient, enhance effectiveness and provide quality services, there is need to enhance training techniques so as to help employees acquire the necessary skills and knowledge required to perform their roles effectively whilst supporting the company's long-term success.
