E-learning involves the delivery of information through information systems. There has been a problem in student performance as there have been reports of low performance among e-learning students in some universities. Various measures have been implemented to ensure that success of e-learning in universities such as improved students’ academic performance. Therefore, this study sought to find out the effect of e-learning tools on student academic performance in Kenyatta University City Campus. The study established that e-learning tools, elearning programs, learning management system and e-library platforms all had positive and significant influence to academic performance of students. From the descriptive analysis, the study respondents strongly agreed that adoption of electronic learning systems contributed to improved academic performance outcomes. Regression analysis established that the changes in student academic performance in terms of high test scores was largely due to adoption and utilization of electronic learning systems at the Kenyatta University. The study therefore concluded that electronic learning systems influence student academic performance. The study also recommend to the universities to adopt digital learning systems and to the government to support and develop policies that push for adoption of e-learning systems in universities. When seeking high academic performance in students, the learning institutions should adopt e-learning systems.Item Management Information Systems Adoption and Performance of Long Distance Public Transport Bus Companies in Lamu County, Kenya(International Academic Journal of Human Resource and Business Administration (IAJHRBA), 2024-06) Kimondio, Bernard Mulingulu; Tumuti, JoshuaDespite the fact that long distance public transport bus companies in Kenya had invested heavily in the adoption of MIS with an aim of enhancing their performance, some of them were still struggling to achieve the expected profitability and productivity. This was mainly due to the differences in the extents of technology adoption in electronic document management, electronic parcel management, electronic booking and electronic fleet management systems respectively. This meant that companies who were not able to remain updated in the adoption of their management information systems soon became irrelevant to their customers and hence loss of business to their competitors who were updated. Additionally, the high capital involved in venturing into long distance transport business only to be brought down by technological issue which could be researched, identified and resolved was a big matter of concern among the long distance public transport bus companies. This as a result left many investors in this industry wondering why they were not performing as expected despite their efforts to adopt MIS and which was why there was need to provide an answer through a research study. This research therefore sought to assess the information management systems adoption and performance of the long distance public transport bus companies in Lamu, Kenya and focused on the extent of adoption which seemed to affect the performance of the said bus companies. Specific objective was to establish the extent of adoption of electronic document management on performance of the long distance public transport bus companies in Kenya. Technology Acceptance Theory (TAT), Resource based view theory and Diffusion of Innovation Theory were used. Qualitative research methodology was used and descriptive data collection techniques and interpretation was applied respectively. The study used inferential statistics to examine the data in order to draw a summary and finally bring the study to its conclusion. Data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics by use of SPSS V20. The study revealed that Management Information Systems (MIS) adoption had a great influence or effect on the performance of the long distance public transport bus companies. Such included the adoption of Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS), which enabled the companies to save on office space, increase data security, efficiency and productivity. The study concluded that EDMS had a great influence on the performance of the long distance public transport bus companies. The study recommended that every long distance public transport bus company should work hard toward full adoption of their IMS in order to achieve the maximum profitability in the public transport industry. The study equally recommended that the government of Kenya to withdraw taxes for ICT equipment in order to enable the companies to afford the ICT gadgets. Key words: Electronic Document Management Adoption and organizational Performance.Item Project Integration Management and Performance of Building Construction Projects in Nairobi City County, Kenya(Strategic Journals, 2025-08) Keseko, Elizabeth K.; Tumuti, JoshuaThis study assessed the effect of project integration management on the performance of building construction projects in Nairobi City County, Kenya. The theoretical framework was anchored in the systems theory, the stakeholder theory, and the Kotter’s eight-step model. The unity of analysis constituted 140 building construction projects across the Nairobi Eastern Boruogh Sub Counties. The study adopted the Yamane formula sampling 104 project managers as respondents selected using the purposive sampling approach. Data was collected using questionnaires. 11 respondents were randomly selected for a pilot study in Embakasi West Sub County to ensure the instruments' reliability and validity. Reliability was measured at 0.721 using Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to identify correlations between the project integration management practices and project performance. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 28 and results presented in tables and figures. Findings revealed a positive significant relationship between the project integration management practices: stakeholder management, resource management, change management, communication management and the performance of building construction projects in Nairobi City County. The overall linear regression model was a good fit:[(F0.05 (4, 93) = 14.209, p < 0.05), r=0.807, R2=0.65]. The findings established that 65% of changes in the performance of Nairobi City County building construction projects were attributed to variation in project integration management practices employed. The research indicated that most projects were completed within their budgetary provisions and stakeholders were satisfied with the final project outcome. However, there was evident uncertainty as pertains to projects being completed within the set time schedules. The study concluded that project integration management is crucial towards the performance of building construction projects. The study recommended that project managers, project supervisors and all project stakeholders should adopt all project integration management practices to enhance the overall performance of building construction projects and that policymakers should prioritize the development of comprehensive project integration systems and training programs to strengthen project performance. The researcher suggests further research on the impact of technological advancements in project integration management strategies on project outcomes.Item Project Management and Performance of Residential Construction Projects in Nairobi City County, Kenya(Journal of Entrepreneurship & Project Management, 2025-03) Oyier, Mercy; Tumuti, JoshuaProject management help ensure the efficient and effective performance of projects. Consequently, in the last five years, Nairobi City County has witnessed numerous residential buildings collapsing due to poor project performance. Besides, limited studies have studied the project management practices that residential construction project managers should adopt to boost project performance as far as Nairobi city county is concerned. Therefore, the proposed study aims to investigate how project management practices affect the performance of construction projects in study area, especially in residential spaces. In realizing this aim, the study focused on realizing the objective of project stakeholder management on the performance of construction projects. The stakeholder theory informed the study’s variable. The variables examined were project stakeholder management (independent variable) and project performance (dependent variable). The descriptive research design guided the data collection and analysis processes. Data was collected from the targeted 50 residential construction projects completed within the last five years across Nairobi City County. The respondents comprised the targeted projects’ contractors, project managers and NCA employees. Semi-structured questionnaires were the primary data collection instruments, where the researcher administered questionnaires to the selected respondents to ensure the gathering of qualitative and quantitative data. 282 respondents participated in the study, who completed and returned the instruments after administration. A pilot test and the Cronbach alpha values for all the study variables met the recommended 0.70 threshold, guaranteeing reliability. The proposed study aimed to ensure that the questionnaires maintained great extents of sampling, construct, and face validity. The obtained data was analyzed using thematic analysis for the qualitative data and descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Findings indicated that stakeholder management positively affect project performance, with project resources scheduling having the greatest influence. The study emphasized the importance of effective resource allocation, timely regulatory compliance, and strong stakeholder engagement in achieving project success. Recommendations included adopting digital tools for resource management, appointing a regulatory liaison, implementing continuous quality improvement frameworks, and using digital platforms for stakeholder engagement. Future research could explore the influence of leadership styles and external economic factors on project performance.
