Item Inventory Management Practices and Performance of Supply Chain at the Nairobi City County, Kenya(The Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management, 2023) Sugut, Jackline Chepkoech; Ondara, AlfayosThis study evaluated inventory management activities and the success of supply chain management in Nairobi City County with a particular focus on strategic supplier partnerships, economic order quantities, just-in-time delivery, and material resource planning. The research was grounded on the lean theory, theory of economic order quantity, application control theory, and stock diffusion theory. The study utilized a descriptive research approach and the positivist philosophy. The population of the study consisted of 340 individuals. The research sample size comprised 183 procurement officers that worked for County offices that were housed in the logistics and procurement division and built environment and urban planning. The study adopted a quantitative approach and used a questionnaire as the data-gathering tool. Descriptive statistics were used to measure means, frequencies, and percentages. Inferential statistics were utilized to determine the nature, strength, and statistical significance of the relationship between the variables. The latest version of SPSS was used for analysis. The findings showed that the adoption of Economic Order Quantity, just in Time, and Material Requirements Planning positively impacted supply chain achievement at Nairobi County. Strategic supplier partnerships were found to have an insignificant impact on supply chain performance. The findings were statistically significant and underscored the importance of mainstreaming Economic Order Quantity, just in Time, and Material Requirements Planning across the various departments of the county government of Nairobi. Nairobi County government should prioritize early engagement of suppliers in supply chain processes; proper and continuous communication with suppliers; frequent meetings with suppliers; using fewer rather than many suppliers and long-term partnerships with supplier to bolster the County’s supply chain performance. Future studies could explore the reasons behind the poor strategic supplier partnerships practices at Nairobi City County to guide the formulation and implementation of effective strong supplier partnership strategies to improve overall supply chain performance at the different departments of the county government of NairobiItem Risk Management Determinants and Performance of Residential Buildings Construction Projects in Nairobi County, Kenya(The Strategic Journal of Business & Change Management, 2023) Mbui, Kahanya Nickson; Ondara, AlfayosProject performance is evaluated based on cost, time, and quality. Residential building construction projects encounter various risks that hamper those components of performance. Risk management enhances project performance and it is affected by various determinants. This study established the impact of risk management determinants on performance of residential buildings construction projects in Nairobi, Kenya. The identified determinants were risk mitigation strategy, risk management skills, project organization structure, and resource allocation. The study was anchored on decision theory, cost-benefit analysis model, and stakeholder theory. The target population was 1024 projects undertaken by contractors in the NCA 1, 2, 3 categories. The applied stratified random sampling method yielded 103 projects as the sample size (sampling factor being 0.1). Descriptive survey research design was used. The pilot study comprised sample of 5 projects. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The response rate from the targeted sample was 73.8% which was above the expected threshold. Data analysis was done on SPSS for both inferential and descriptive analysis. The respondents’ education level was noted to be 42.11%, 36.16%, and 19.74% for post-graduate, undergraduate, and diploma respectively. 50% of the respondents had worked between 5-10 years, 36.84% had worked over 10 years, while 13.16% had worked for less than 5 years. A reliability analysis was conducted using Cronbach’s Alpha test which yielded 0.762, an indication of higher level of internal consistency. The model summary indicated R to be 0.676 which showed high levels of correlation between project performance and the identified determinants. Regression analysis yielded coefficients that resulted in the equation, Y = 1.779 + 0.258X1 - 0.049X2 + 0.303X3 + 0.120X4. That illustrated that all determinants had positive correlation with project performance except project organization structure. The study concluded that risk management strategies and risk management skills had positive and significant impact on the project performance of residential buildings’ construction in Nairobi, Kenya. Project stakeholders were recommended to adopt these strategies without fail. The study recommended undertaking the study in other areas to ascertain a comparative analysis on the significant determinants.Item Stakeholder Management and Performance of Projects in Humanitarian Organizations in Nairobi City County, Kenya(AJOEI, 2024-10) Mukundi, Candita Njeri; Ondara, AlfayosStatement of the Problem: Humanitarian organizations in Nairobi City County play a crucial role in the social and economic advancement of poor and low-income residents. During the 2021– 2022 fiscal year, approximately Ksh. 427 million of the funds assigned to the Constituency Development Funds Committees were misappropriated, unreported, or embezzled. Projects funded by the CDF have not performed up to par, and there is a case to be made for closely examining the institutional capacity of the implementing organs. This might be the reason for unfinished projects, unhappy clients, and subpar customer service that results in subpar project performance. Hence this study sought to investigate the influence of stakeholder participation and involvement techniques and project performance of selected constituency development funded heath projects in Nairobi City County Kenya. The investigation was theoretically underpinned by stakeholders' theories, control theory, and the balanced scorecard. A descriptive research design was used for the investigation. The 333 members of the Board committees and the employees of particular maternity facilities made up the target population. One hundred participants were chosen from this group using a stratified simple random sampling procedure. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to gather data for the research. To evaluate the validity and reliability of the research instrument, a pilot study was carried out in the chosen hospitals prior to the data collection process. Secondary sources, including articles, papers, websites, and pertinent publications, supplemented primary data. The statistical techniques which included both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze quantitative data. Frequencies and percentages are used in descriptive statistics, while regression analysis and correlation were used to determine the relationship between variables. Figures and tables were used to visually represent the data outputs. The study revealed that the stakeholder involvement, competent human resource, project planning and monitoring and evaluation had a statistically significant effect on the performance of the chosen CDF health projects in Nairobi City County. The study concluded that active engagement of stakeholder fosters trust among stakeholders, leading to better collaboration. M&E provides a framework for accountability to stakeholders, including the government, donors, and the community. The study recommends that the County should conduct a comprehensive mapping of stakeholders, including government agencies, local NGOs, community leaders, health professionals, and beneficiaries. The County should focus on recruiting healthcare professionals who are not only qualified but also have a deep understanding of the local health challenges and cultural context. The County should engage with community members, health workers, and local leaders to identify specific health needs and gaps in services.
