Item The Effect of Corporate Governance Practices on Performance of Deposit Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies in Kiambu County, Kenya(IJCAB Publishing Group, 2020) Anne, Miano; Gitonga, EstherCorporate governance is regarded as the key foundation upon which organizations are more productive, better managed and controlled. Performance has a link to good corporate governance for the sustainable organizational success. This project narrowed down specifically to the factor of corporate governance to determine the practice of corporate governance in SACCOs in Kiambu County, Kenya. The researcher used a descriptive survey design in soliciting information on the practice of corporate governance in SACCOs in Kiambu County, Kenya. The research also made use of both secondary and primary data. Secondary data was collected from statistical data available from the SASRA records and those from the Ministry of Cooperatives. Primary data was obtained by use of a closed ended questionnaire administered on senior managers of the sampled SACCOs. The target population was 8 deposit taking SACCOs and a total population of 200 SACCO managers in Kiambu County, Kenya. Each SACCO had a different number of respondents depending on its size and the number of senior managers in it. Data analysis was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to generate quantitative reports which is presented in this project in the form of tabulations, percentages and descriptive statistics and inferential data computed using a regression equation. The findings of this project are that the practices of corporate governance have a direct effect on the overall performance of SACCOs in Kiambu County, Kenya contributing to 70% of the factors affecting performance. Recommendations put forward from the findings of this project is that there is need to research on the effect of corporate governance on performance of other institutions such as commercial banks, microfinance institutions and small and medium enterprises. The findings of the research include the finding that majority of those in senior positions in the SAACOs sampled are men at 64% of the sample size while women are at 36%. Another finding of the research is that majority of those in senior management positions are persons aged between 40 and 59 years. The research further brought out the fact that majority of the respondents comprising of 39% had held their current position for a period of between 4 and 6 years while 42% of the respondents had worked in the SACCO for a period of between 10 and 12 years. One of the recommendations from the research is on the need to have increased disclosure of information to the shareholders. A further recommendation was the need to train the board of governance often on corporate governance so as to better equip them to uphold the practice in their respective SAACOs. The economic environment is changing rapidly and this change is characterized by phenomena such as globalization, changing customer and investor demands and ever increasing product-market competition, thus the importance of strategic management practices for the organization to compete successfully in this environment.Food manufacturing companies in Nairobiare performing poorly and facing intense competition from the imported food stuffs from overseas.The general objective of this study was to investigate the influence of strategic management practices in enhancing organizational competitiveness in Premier Foods Industries Limitedin Nairobi County, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to examine the influence of product differentiation, product modification and product innovation on organizational competitiveness in Premier Foods Industries Limited, Nairobi County, Kenya.The findings are useful to the management of the food manufacturing industries in Kenya and management of Premier Food Industries Limited in improving its competitiveness. This study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population was 196 respondents from sales department, production department, quality assurance department and marketing department. The sample size was 59 respondents.Stratified sampling method was used to group the respondents into 4 departments (sales, production, quality assurance and marketing) to ensure that all different subgroups were adequately represented in the sample,then simple random sampling method was used to select respondents from each stratum. Questionnaires were used to collect data from the employees. The study concluded that product differentiation, product modification and product innovation had a positive significant effect on the organizational competitiveness.Premier Foods Industries Limited gives careful consideration to the products beneficial quality, product composition and design. Product differentiation requires great deal of resources for doing a statistical surveying to know the client needs, product development, market penetration, promotion, monitoring and evaluation. Product modification builds the allure of a product to company’s faithful clients and furthermore permits a firm to expand the interest of its products to competitor’s dedicated clients. Product innovation helps in keeping or expanding market share, prompts utilization of new business chances to a huge degree and furthermore product innovation prompts authoritative development, extension and picking up an upper hand in the market and brand exchanging. For product innovation to happen, Premier Foods Industries Limited need to change the way it maintains its organizations, since this could prompt the separating of connections between the business and its clients, providers and business accomplices.Item Focus Strategy: A Dimension of Response Strategy in Influencing the Performance of Star-Rated Hotels in Kisumu County, Kenya(International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, 2025-06) Okoth, Gladys Atieno; Gitonga, EstherEnvironmental turbulence such as the political upheavals, epidemics of diseases, terrorist attacks and natural calamities constitute to a significant economic threat to the hotel industry, the travel advisories brought about the reduction of number of visitors, resulting in massive effects on the performance of the hotels such as sagging sales, revenue loss, hotel shut downs, dwindling occupancy rate and reduction in customer satisfaction. This therefore emphasis the need for management to seek proper strategies for the hotels to recover and improve its performance. This study sought to assess how focus strategy affected performance of star-rated hotels within Kisumu County, Kenya. This study was anchored on Michael Porter Generic Competitive Strategies model. There was adoption of the descriptive research design, and where 10 star-rated hotels were targeted and 80 senior managers formed the sample size. The response rate was 85% as 68 managers filled and returned the questionnaires. The qualitative and quantitative data was analyzed through descriptive, inferential and content approaches. The association was strong based on the r values of 0.819 and focus strategy at beta coefficient of β =0.745, p < 0.05 showing a strong and positive effect to performance of the hotels. The study concluded that focus strategy contributed to the improved performance of the hotels. It was recommended that hotels concentrate on a small segment of the market, adopt strategies to manage costs, innovatively develop new products and services and expand the customer and market base.Item Service Delivery and Performance of Kenya Commercial Bank Limited: A Critical Review of Literature(IJCAB Publishing Group, 2019) Chesaina, Francis; Gitonga, EstherThe overall goal of any business entity is to have the needs of customers satisfied. In the business world customers are the source of profit and revenue for the service organizations and improvements in service delivery leads to customer loyalty. Rapid developments in the business environment such as globalization have made organizations to adopt a spirit of completion and innovation so as to be able to meet the equally changing customer needs and expectations. In order to compete effectively, it has become essential for businesses to constantly improve on the quality of their products and services by marketing, product differentiation and cost reduction. The changes in the environment is forcing organizations to move from a retail model that emphasizes transaction processing and operational capabilities to one that focuses more effectively on the needs of customers, recognizing that they often vary across segments. In a move to optimize services and diminish costs, banks are regularly migrating towards a twenty four hour service where clients are enjoying the superior sense of independence that this creates. This study seeks to establish the effect of service delivery on performance of Kenya Commercial Bank Limited, Kenya. The review is based on SERVQUAL model Systems, Modelling Theory, Gaps Model of Service Quality and Theory of Performance. The literature reviewed indicates that service delivery by Kenya Commercial Bank improves organization performance. However, the specific service delivery channels and tools are noted to differ from one organization to the next. The level of service delivery will also be different and expected to influence organization performance. This is in line with SERVQUAL that requires assessing level and type of service delivery would lead to higher customer satisfaction and thus organization performance. The level of service quality in term of reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy and responsiveness are crucial to be studied. This review therefore recommends for an empirical study to assess how service delivery affects performance at KCB. KCB management is also recommended to put in place mechanisms of ensuring sustained service delivery and thus maintain above competition organization performance.Item Total Quality Management Practices and Performance of East African Breweries Limited, Kenya(International Journal of Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, 2024) Gichure, Jamleck Waweru; Gitonga, EstherTotal quality management (TQM) is a continuous process that seeks to point out and eradicate managerial gaps in organizations. It also aligns organizational management, enhances good customer service and empowers the training of employees. TQM uses strategies, data and communication channels to bring together the required quality principles into the organization’s activities and culture. This study examined the relationship between Total Quality Management practices and organizational performance at East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Kenya. The study sought to establish the effect of customer focus on the performance of EABL in Kenya. The research examined the effect of continuous quality improvement on the performance of EABL in Kenya. The study also assessed the effect of strategic approaches on the performance of EABL in Kenya. Contigency thory,Service quality theory, Sigma six quality improvement theoryand system theory of management were reviewed concerning the four variables involved in this study to analyze the gaps that lead to further research. The population target was 60 EABL managers in the departments directly related to TQM practices. Since the population was moderate, there was no sampling. Instead, census method was used and therefore the entire population was included in this study. The study used an explanatory research design where questionnaires were used as a data collection instrument. Quantitative statistic processes were also used to derive correlation and regression analysis to establish the extent and nature of the relationship between the independent variables and dependent variables. Construct validity showed a description of whether support is given by case studies concerning the interpretation of variables in the study. The findings of the study indicated a positive significance by benefiting East Africa Breweries Limited in understanding to what extent the total quality management practices impact the performance of the company. The findings demonstrate that East African Breweries Limited (EABL) exhibits a strong commitment to Total Quality Management practices and a customercentric approach to quality, resulting in enhanced effectiveness, customer retention, and market advantage. EABL's focus on customer satisfaction, loyalty, and market performance highlights the strategic significance of TQM in the company's success and competitiveness. The study concludes that implementing TQM practices can lead to improved business outcomes, emphasizing the importance of effective TQM in achieving better organizational results and market success.
