    Effect of Employee Wellness Programmes on Performance of Environmental Nongovernmental Organizations in Nairobi City County, Kenya

    Non-governmental organisations especially those in the environmental spectrum have often posted poor performance especially on employee retention, efficacy of their programmes, low budget efficiency where their projects often exceed their initial budgets or face financing challenges which delay project completion or collapse. Further, environmental non-governmental organisations have also failed to deliver in preservation of the ecosystem. Human resource is a major source of a company’s competitive advantages and value creation. However, over the years, human resource has conventionally been identified as a cost to companies as opposed to strategic resources. However, modern scholars view human resource management and particularly employee wellness as a key determinant of organizational performance. As a result, aim of the study was to determine the effect of employee wellness programmes on performance of environmental non-governmental organizations in Kenya. The study was anchored on social exchange theory. Descriptive research design was adopted. Target population of the study comprised 216 employees in human resources and administration, finance department operations department and research and development department. Sample size was 140 respondents selected using stratified random sampling technique. Primary data collected via a structured questionnaire was used in data analysis. Collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means and standard deviation. Linear regression analysis was also used to determine the relationship between employee wellness programmes and performance. The study determined that there was high level emphasis on employee wellness programs for enhancing employees' physical, mental, and financial well-being. The study also determined that employee wellness programs have a significant positive effect on performance of environmental non-governmental organizations. It was thus concluded that employee wellness programs significantly affect performance of environmental nongovernmental organizations.

    Effect of Quality Management Practices on Organizational Performance of Savings and Credit Co-Operatives in Kirinyaga County, Kenya

    Total Quality Management (TQM) practices operate as a reciprocated system that integrates with other organizational assets to engender competitive advantage. Many Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) today have reached at the culmination that effective quality management can augment their competitive abilities and provide strategic leverages in the market place. There seem scarce researches have been conducted addressing Quality Management (QM) practices and their effect on organizational performance of SACCOs. The study examined the Quality Management (QM) practices and their effect on Organizational performance of SACCOs in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. The study employed descriptive research design and targeted a total of six (6) registered deposit taking SACCOs operating in Kirinyaga County, Kenya with a population of four hundred and eighteen (418) respondents. The target population comprised of employees of the SACCOs. The sample size of one hundred and twenty six (126) subjects was drawn using stratified random sampling. The research instrument for this study was a self-administered structured questionnaire that was developed by the researcher. The reliability of the items was determined by utilization of Cronbach’s coefficient alpha. The data was evaluated with the aid of the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine the effects of the elements of total quality management on organizational performance. The findings were presented using comparative tables showing percentages, frequencies and charts. The study findings of correlation analysis disclosed that top management commitment and support, employees’ involvement through training and customer focus positively and significantly affected organizational performance. The findings of this research indicate that quality management practices have a high positive effect on organizational performance thus any SACCO managers aiming to achieve enhanced organizational performance should consider implementation of the elements of quality management practices. This study advocates that future studies appraise the effect of the other facets of quality management practices that were not part of the current study, on organizational performance.

    Growth Strategies and Performance of Bamboo-Related Micro Enterprises in Vihiga County, Kenya

    This research work established the performance outcome when bamboo-related micro enterprises in Vihiga County employ growth strategies. Focus was on product development, market penetration, market development and diversification growth strategies. The influence of each strategy on the micro enterprise’s performance was thereafter established. A total of 65 micro enterprises formed the target population from which 65 owners and managers were involved in the process of data collection. The small population compelled use of a census in the collection of data with a questionnaire as the primary instrument of data collection. The questionnaire type was self-administered containing open ended and closed ended questions. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of data through the use of an SPSS tool utilizing, frequency, percentage distributions and measures of central tendency. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a multiple regression model were constructed to provide a relation between the dependent and independent variables. It was established that there exists a strong interrelationship among market penetration strategies, product development strategies, market development strategies, and diversification strategies, and the performance of bamboo-related micro enterprises. These predictor variables accounted for seventy-two percent of the total variance in performance of bamboo-related enterprises, with each having a positive predictor value. The findings showed that we could use the aforementioned to predict the performance of bamboo-related micro enterprises in Vihiga County. Ultimately, the research work concluded that the application of these strategies had a significant and positive relationship with the micro enterprises performance. As a recommendation, both private and public entities are to engage bamboo-related micro enterprises to develop more strategies in achieving growth performance that will spur expansion beyond their domiciled market. A suggestion for further research was put forward to identify other unique strategies applied by bamboo-related micro enterprises and some of the challenges encountered in implementing them.

    Strategic Partnerships and Sustainable Growth of Equity Bank in Kenya

    Equity Bank Kenya experienced significant growth over the past three decades, evolving from a building society into one of East Africa’s leading commercial banks. However, between 2021 and 2024, the bank encountered challenges in sustaining this growth, despite the implementation of various strategic initiatives. These challenges included difficulties in attracting technological talent, inconsistent environmental performance, and heightened regulatory scrutiny. While these issues were acknowledged, the extent to which strategic partnerships addressed them and fostered sustainable growth remained underexplored. This study therefore examinedthe influence of strategic partnerships on the sustainable growth of Equity Bank Kenya.The research was guided by the Sustainable Development Theory, Resource-Dependency Theory, and Dynamic Capability Theory. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Froma target population of 600 employees, a stratified sampling technique was used to select a sample of 158 employees, comprising branch managers, human resource managers, finance officers, and heads of operations from Equity Bank branches within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), including the headquarters. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Validity of the instruments was ensured through expert review and pilot testing, while reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha. Data analysis involved both descriptive and inferential statistics, with correlation and regression analyses employed to examine relationships among variables. An acceptable significance level of p < 0.05 was used to determine statistical relevance. The findingsindicated that B2B partnerships, public-private partnerships, collaborations with international development agencies, and partnerships with NGOs each had a significantly positive influence on the sustainable growth of Equity Bank. The study concluded thatstrategic partnerships enabled the bank to leverage external expertise, resources, and innovation enhancing its financial inclusion initiatives, technological advancements, and operational efficiencies. The study recommended that Equity Bank pursue joint ventures with local businesses to co-develop products tailored to the Kenyan market, define shared goals with public sector partners to promote sustainable development, and collaborate with development agencies and NGOs to support community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and inclusive finance

    Strategy Implementation Practices and Service Delivery in National Council of Non-Governmental Organizations in Nairobi City County, Kenya

    Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a crucial role in addressing various social, economic, and environmental issues in Nairobi City County, Kenya. However, their efforts are often hindered by a range of challenges that impede their effectiveness andsustainability. Thus, this research examined how strategy implementation practices affect service delivery within the National Council for NGOs in Nairobi City County, focusing on the roles of staffing levels, financial resources, organizational structure, and cultural practices in shaping strategic execution. The study applied resource-based view, institutional, contingency, and cultural dimensions theories as theoretical anchors. Using a descriptive research design, data was collected from all 90 councilemployees comprising 25 senior managers and 65 middle-level managers through a full census approach. Instrument validity was confirmed through content validation checks, and reliability was established through Cronbach's Alpha testing. Research findings were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and presented in tables and figures. The study's findings provide valuable insights to various stakeholders including NGO management and leadership, government officials, policy makers, employees, donors, community members, and researchers. Findings indicated that service delivery at the National Council for NGOs in Nairobi was positively influenced by staffing levels, financial resources, organizational structure, and cultural practices. The study confirmed that adequate staffing directly supports prompt and effective service provision, while sufficient financial resources enable the Council to expand operational capacity, reach more beneficiaries, and provide comprehensive services. Clear organizational structure delineates roles and responsibilities, ensuring members understand their specific duties, while cultural practices facilitate partnerships with local leaders and community groups, enhancing collaboration and resource sharing. The research recommends that NGOs should assess whether current staffing levels meet service delivery requirements and conduct continuous capacity-building exercises for staff and stakeholders in financial management, budgeting, and reporting. NGOs should clarify roles and responsibilities within organizational structures to ensure effective management and decision-making while developing comprehensive policies regulating organizational operations, including conflict resolution, transparency, and ethical standards. Additionally, NGOs should implement cultural awareness programs to enhance staff understanding of cultural diversity, enabling more effective engagement with diverse communities and improved service delivery outcomes.
