Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate pupils attitudes towards physical punishments.
The study was done in Mombasa Municipality. It involved five educational zones. One school was selected (random selection) from each zone. A total of 126 pupils were involved.
A questionnaire to pupils was the main instrument used. Five teachers, one from each school, in charge of discipline in their schools were interviewed. The main findings of the study are that pupils have very positive attitudes towards physical punishments. Some of the findings to contradict what psychologists and Educationalists say about punishment as shown in the literature review. Therefore this calls for further research on;-
-the effects of punishment on pupils.
- the effects of attitudes on behaviour
