Abstract
Organizational performance has transmuted into a proposition which depends on on innumerable façades within the company in its uppermost management and how strategies are implemented. What clique organizations therefore is the distinctiveness in their performance depends upon level of customer satisfaction and profit precincts. Performace of firms in both developed and developing nations have encountered challenges in implementing their strategies. This has particularly been experienced by insurance companies in Kenya, through a decline in their performance. Previous studies revealed research gaps on study variables spanning from metholodological, theoretical, conceptual and context, hence informing this study. This study therefore aimed at investigating strategy implementation practices and performance of selected insurance companies in Nairobi city county, Kenya. The objectives of the research were to: to establish the effects of resource allocation, employee training, organisation communication and organisation culture on performance of selected insuarance companies in Nairobi city county, Kenya. Open systems, holistic strategy implementation and Transformative leadership theory were used in the study. Descriptive survey design was utilized. From a target population of 164 respondents, a sample of 49 respondents was chosen using Israel’s formula. Structured (five-point likert scale) questionnaires were utilized for obtaining primary data. Random sampling design was adopted in the identification of respondents. Pilot study was carried in five insurances companies in Kiambu County.To measure the validity of items in actual data, internal validity was used , specifically content and construct validity was applied. Cronbach alpha was employed to measure consistency. Information collected was quantitative and qualitative in nature. The statistical methods employed to analyse data were descriptive and inferential statistics. Simple linear regression aided in model development. The findings revealed that resource allocation, employee training, organisation communication and organisation culture all had a statistically significant effect on performance of listed insurance companies in Nairobi City County. Thus, the study concludes that resource allocation, employee training, organisation communication and organisation culture had a significant impact on performances of the listed insurance firms in Kenya. Therefore, this research recommends that the finance managers of the insurance firms in Kenya must set aside sufficient funds to finance implementation of strategies. The human resource managers working in the insurance firms should organize regular on-the-job and off-the-job training programs to enhance the skills of employees so that they can be able to implement formulated strategies. Further, communication managers and public relations officers working in the insurance firms should strive to improve on the existing communication channels to enhance the flow of information among employees as they implement strategies. Future studies should be conducted among other firms away from the insurance sector like commercial banks of investment banks, investigate other constructs like growth or competitive advantage as the dependent variable
