Abstract
State corporations like Geothermal Development Company are currently operating in an extremely competitive environment. This demands for more responsiveness and efficiency of employees that is engineered by Work life balance as adopted in private organizations. The main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of work-life balance and employee performance at Geothermal Development Company. Specifically, the influence of work-centered life, family-centered life, assistance programs, job sharing and employee performance. Theories used were Spill-over Theory that was reinforced by Compensation Theory. The study adopted a descriptive research design. Data was collected using structured questionnaires from the senior management, middle management, and lower-level support staffs. The study‟s sample size was 102. The study used stratified random sampling. 10% of respondents were piloted. Validity of the instrument was assessed using expert opinion and pre-testing. On the other hand, reliability of the instrument was assessed using Chronbach‟s alpha reliability test. The qualitative data was analysed with the aid of SPSS version 26.0. Inferential statistics was used to show the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Pearson correlation helped in envisaging and defining the relationship between the variables. Data was presented in tables. The study established that work centred life, family centred life, employee assistance programmes and job sharing have a significant influence on employee performance. The researcher recommends that the management of GDC should enhance the work life balance strategies that were articulated in the study. GDC management should allocate adequate resources for the implementation of work-life balance programs. In order to validate these findings, the researcher recommends that a study be conducted in private organizations.
