Abstract
This research intended to investigate how the selected play books: Pango by Wamitila W.K.(2003) and Mstahiki Meya by Timothy Arege (2009) portray the youth as the characters causing political conciousness against bad governance. This research has been guided by the tenents of Realism theory of Hegel(1971). Majorly, the theory postulates that the common man is always oppressed by the ruling class. The researcher used purposive sampling to select the play books; Pango and Mstahiki Meya. Data was collected in the library and analysed descriptively in line with the objectives, research questions and be guided with the relevant tenents of the theory guiding the study. Findings were presented descriptively in five chapters. The first chapter dealt with the introduction, statement of the problem, scope, literature review and theoretical framework. Chapter two investigated the imagery of political consciousness amongst the youth in the play books. Chapter three investigated the responsibilities of the youth in enlightening the citizens on bad governance. Chapter four investigated the effects of bad governance to the youths and the general public. Chapter five is a summary, conclusion and recommendations. This research is intended to benefit students, teachers critics and other authors in demonstrating the role of the youth in improving the living standards of the oppressed.
