Supervisor Samson Rosana Ondigi David Owuor OludheThis study seeks to investigate the extent to which the use of audio-visual resources in teaching and learning influences students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Makadara Sub County, Nairobi County. The study objectives are to: Establish the types of audio-visual resources used in teaching and learning, examine factors teachers consider in using audio-visual resources in teaching and learning, assess the extent to which audio – visual resources influence students’ academic performance, analyse whether there are gender differences in the use of audio-visual resources in teaching and learning and establish the challenges faced by teachers and students when using audio-visual resources. The study will be underpinned by Visual, Auditory, Reading and Kinesthetic and Dual – Coding theories. Using descriptive research design the study will deploy qualitative and quantitative techniques that is questionnaires, interview, lesson observation guide and the check list in collecting and analyzing data in conjunction with stratified sampling techniques to select 8 schools out of 17 and random sampling to identify three teachers from each department to participate in the study. A sample of 10 % of students’ population will be selected for the study. All principals and head of departments will be sampled for the study. SPPS version 26 will be used to conduct descriptive statistical analysis. Qualitative data will be categorized and analyzed thematically based on research objectives while quantitative will be transcribed, categorized, established, coded and entered in the computer for descriptive analysis.
