The conference was convened by the University of Texas at Austin with the support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The participants were core researchers and higher education leaders from five African countries-Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and South Africa. The target audience was select heads of private and public universities, heads of university regulatory commissions, heads of ministries of education, union leaders, staff and students.
