T3 M8The purpose of this study was to investigate the problems facing libraries in technical training institutions in Kenya with reference to collection development. The study dealt with selected technical training institutions in Machakos, Thika and Nairobi districts. The main areas investigated in this study were: 1. Collection development 2. Library budget 3. Library staff 4. Bibliographic control 5. Publishing and book trade 6. Impact of IT (Information Technology) on collection development. 7. Difficulties encountered, recommendations and solutions to the problems. Stratified random sampling technique was used to get the sample of the study. Observations, questionnaires and unstructured interviews were used during data collection.
