The country of Sudan is emerging from a conflict situation in the South, while facing an unfolding humanitarian crisis in the North. Humanitarian organizations need to respond fast, effectively and efficiently if the signed peace in the south is to be safeguarded and to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the North. In order to respond, these organizations must plan, recruit and select the right kinds of people, in the right numbers and in the right places and in the right time so that they can implement the projects in order to save lives. The responsibility of planning for the human resources, recruiting and selecting them is charged to the Human Resources Department under the leadership of Human Resource Managers and Directors. While operation in a Conflict and Post-Conflict context, HR Managers and Directors face many challenges while equipping their organizations with the required personnel. Challenges facing the Human Resources sectors while helping their organizations function effectively need to be understood, documented and best practices sought and scaled up. Because of the urgency of their core business many organizations are not in a position to gather and use this information to improve their operations and this lack of information can negatively affect the effective functioning of these organizations. The study will seek to identify the Human Resource Planning, recruitment and selection challenges in the HR functions of selected International Relief organizations working in Sudan.en_US
