dc.description.abstractSavings and Credit cooperative (SACCOs) are corporations that aim at pooling money together. The goal of SACCOs is to enhance economic growth of its members. However, Sacco’s are facing challenges that have so far affected their performances. Identifying this challenges is one of the ways towards improving SACCO performance. However, no study has been carried out on how strategy formulation process affects performance of DTS in Nairobi County. The research on this topic was inspired by the lack of comprehensive information on how strategy formulation affects performance in organizations, both globally and locally. Strategy formulation process involves steps in coming up with the required strategies to enable an organization to perform better. It entails analytical practices that leads to the selection of the best course of action that supports the organization to achieve its vision, mission and objectives. This includes strategic leadership, customer involvement, it also includes capturing strategies that would lead to better performance such as resource mobilisation and employee empowerment. This study sought to bring to light why most organizations have strategies that are not well implemented to improve performance. This became the study purpose. The objectives were: to establish the effects of strategic leadership on the performance of strategies, to find out how stakeholder involvement in strategy formulation affects the performance of Deposit taking Sacco’s (DTS), to establish how unique strategies that Sacco’s come up with affects their performance. The theories that informed the study were organization theory, system theory and resource based theory. The findings of this study will form guidelines to improve DTS performance. The study involved administering of 80 questionnaires respondents from Waumini, Walinzi, Shirika, United Nations (UN) and Mwalimu DTS. The data was then analysed using SPSS and the outcome informed this report. The study established that strategy formulation process through indicators such as stakeholder involvement, strategic leadership and unique strategies affected the performance of DTS largely. The study recommends that DTS should invest in this elements to ensure improved performance. The study is significant in adding to the current body of knowledge on how strategy formulation process affects performance. It is also be useful in ensuring effective management process of the deposit taking Sacco’s. The researcher recommends other scholars to expand this subject are by studying other DTS in other Counties in Kenya.en_US
