Determinants of Sustainability of Non-Governmental Organizations Agricultural Based Projects in Kenya a Case of Send a Cow Programs in Western Kenya
Globalization and internationalization of firms coupled with advancements in information, communication and technology have revolutionized the way organizations operate to be competitive and sustainable. The results from prior studies show that sustainability of NGOs in Africa and even Kenya remains a challenge despite the efforts that have so far been made. This study seeks to establish the determinants of sustainability of Non-Governmental Organizations’ agricultural based projects in Kenya, using a case study of Send A Cow Kenya. The study will be guided by four specific objectives which are: to find out the influence of human resource capacity on sustainability of agricultural projects by Send a Cow Kenya; to examine the influence of stakeholder involvement on sustainability of agricultural projects by Send a Cow Kenya; to determine the influence of funding access on sustainability of agricultural projects by Send a Cow Kenya; to establish the influence of monitoring performance on sustainability of agricultural projects by Send a Cow Kenya. This study will be guided by two theories which are resource based theory, theory of constraints and stakeholders theory. This study will use descriptive research design to meet the objectives of the study. Both primary and secondary data from Send A Cow will used. The study population of this study will be 2130 beneficiaries consisting of staff of Send A Cow Kenya, peer farmer trainers & farmers. The target population for this study will be 213 beneficiaries representing 10% of the study population. Using proportionate stratified random sampling technique, a sample of 213 respondents will be randomly selected. Semi Structuredquestionnaires will be used to collect primary data from the respondents and secondary data will be obtained from the approved donor reports for Send A Cow for the period 2013-2017 when the organization was running high impact agricultural projects focusing on wealth creation. Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS) will be used in the analysis of data and results will be presented by frequency tables and bar graphs to show how the responses on various variables and indicators posed to the respondents. Reliability and validity tests will be conducted to determine the internal consistencies of the variables under investigation. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation and regression analysis will be used in the study. The adjusted R2 will indicate the variations in dependent variables that will be explained by the independent variables. The results will demonstrate the association that exists between the determinants and sustainability of NGOs that Send a Cow, donors and others NGOs within the sector may need to know. This study will also contribute to the existing literature in the field of determinants of sustainability of NGOs agricultural based project and may open up the areas for further research.
