An investigation into the instructional supervisory practices used by headteachers in the Northern division of Nairobi

This study is an attempt to investigate "the Instructional Supervisory Practices used by head teachers in the Northern Division of Nairobi”, and it consists of five chapters. Some of the areas covered are: Background information on instructional supervision in Kenya, discussion of instructional practices, namely,(staffing, motivation of teachers, consultation with teachers, programme development, and evaluation of teachers).Conclusions drawn from the research subjects (head teachers, teachers and senior advisor to schools) indicate that the five instructional supervisory practices are carried out by head teachers with varying frequencies. Several recommendations are made by the researcher such as, provision of initial educational preparation for head teachers and self-evaluation checklist. This research can be replicated to allow selection of more subjects representing the four divisions of Nairobi.
