Early Childhood Development Centre related factors influencing implementation of curriculum in Kawalase Zone in Turkana Central Sub-County, Kenya

The central problem of this study is despite the critical role that various stakeholders play in ensuring the implementation of ECDE curriculum, ECD centres are still lacking very important aspects which the researcher will call factors such as physical facilities, teaching and learning materials, feeding programmes and suitable teacher-child ratio. The problem of this study have not been investigated and identified as having influenced implementation of ECDE curriculum in the ECD centres. To this end, the purpose of this research project will be to investigate the implementation of early childhood development and education ECDE) curriculum in child development centres in Kawalase Zone in Turkana Central Sub-County. The study will also determine ECD centre related factors influencing implementation of the ECDE curriculum. This study will be significant to the Count Government, NGOs and Faith Based Organizations, ECD teachers, caregivers, nutritionalists and policy makers. Bronfen Brenner Theory of Ecological systems and Maslow Theory of Needs will be applied in this study. The study also will apply descriptive design. The study will be located in Kawalase Zone in Turkana Central Sub-County. The target population will be all ECD centres and all preschool teachers in the Kawalase zone. The sample size will be as follows: One Sub-County, one Zone, 4 public ECD centres (30%) and 4 teachers (30%), 9 satellite ECD centres (30%) and 9 teachers (30%), 2 county ECD centres (30%) and 2 teachers (30%), 3 private ECD centres (30%) and 3 teachers (30%) hence a total sample size of 19 ECD centres (30%) and 19 teachers (30%). The data will be collected by the researcher who will use and conduct observation schedules for the ECD centres sampled in order to gain the overall information of the problem at a glance. The researcher also will administer interview guides for the teachers and caregivers of the ECD centres sampled for questions and answers, discussion and clarification. The data will be collected, analyzed using descriptive statistics and faithfully reported. The main techniques for data analyses will be the content analysis for qualitative data and Statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for quantitative data.
