The study will be based on police preparedness to deal with cyber crimes in Kenya, with a special attention on the police officers at cyber crime unit, economic and commercial crimes unit, banking fraud investigation unit and serious crimes unit at the Directorate of criminal investigations headquarters Nairobi County. The study will aim at establishing the prevalence and preparedness of the police in dealing with cyber crime in Nairobi County, Kenya with a view of suggesting appropriate strategies to curb the menace. The specific objectives will be; to assess the prevalence of cyber crimes, to find out the factors contributing to the rise in cyber crimes and to identify the challenges faced by the police officers. The study will be guided by the Routine activity theory in analyzing the theoretical background of the problem and discussion of the findings. A case study design will be adopted by the researcher using purposive sampling method where the respondents will be grouped into five clusters of Cyber crime unit police officers, police officers at Serious Crimes Unit (SCU), Banking Fraud Investigation Unit (BFIU) & Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit (ECCU and victims of cyber offending(Complainants).Representative samples will be arrived at through cluster/ random sampling and research interviews questionnaires, and FGDs will be administered to the respondents. The collected data will be analyzed using MS Excel and the results will be used to make conclusions and possible recommendations. The qualitative data collected will be analyzed thematically and results used to make possible recommendations on how to curb the menace.
